The new 3lap strategy for the Frappe Snowland 3lap shortcut was revealed in December 2020.
On FS, Lakitu will place you back on the track if you go out of bounds based on where you where last on the road. So first we drive into the snow from the end of the bridge behind the finish line, cross the finish line while in the snow, and then get stuck out of bounds. This causes Lakitu to place us back on the bridge and also makes a big enough position jump to store the value of our last known section. This spot is also more than 20 path markers away from the finish line which means the finish line was inactive while we were getting placed back on the bridge and the lap did not subtract as it should have, leaving us at the end of lap 1 now.
The next step is to drive into the snow and get stuck out of bounds at the same time as we are crossing backwards over the finish line. This out of bounds area is not properly mapped to a specific section, meaning it will use our last known section value that we had previously stored to calculate where the kart is stuck and it will not properly subtract the lap.
We get placed back on the track by where we last entered the snow and repeat the same shortcut for lap 3.
Here is a map by Forest showing the coordinates of his TAS run and the out of bounds areas.
The lap works by doing the same strategy as the 3lap but in a more precise way to spend as little time before getting stuck out of bounds as possible.
There is also a new setup described in the explanation video by Bismuth that allows us to get placed down 1 path marker closer to the finish line by entering the snow and being in front of the finish line during a lag frame where the game won't trigger the next lap but will still store that path marker for Lakitu placement.
